I asked for an eight-page chapter about a sanctum door that refuses to stay in one house. The layouts came back with the door on the verso every time, which I had not specified, and it made the chapter tighter than my notes. The gold on the title plate took a second pass because the first leaf dulled; they said so before I noticed.

My plate is a cloak on a chair, not a hero standing in wind. That was the brief. They drew the chair first, which felt backwards until I saw the cloak needed a weight to hang from.

The second folio in the Bagendon stack was an eight-page night walk. The patron wanted the cloak to fill a double-page over a village roof. In the first dummy, a relic plate sat opposite that splash. The binder, Otto Lang, sat with us and said the plate made the splash look like an advertisement. We moved the plate to follow a quiet caption page. The NFT edition still uses the title spread only; the bound chapter is the one that changed.
That sitting took a second afternoon and a reprint of three proofs. The gold on the title plate was left matte because leaf over the village sky fought the night palette. The patron kept the matte. The token listing now says so in the colophon line, which is the only honest place for that kind of change.
